"Operation Art Attack”: Palettes for Peace Project
Deadline for submissions is October 31, 2008
On Mother's Day last year, Yvonne Lucia, NYEA student and one of this year's Level I graduates, was inspired into social action and created the Palettes for Peace Project. It invites participants to decorate a wooden artist’s palette through gluing, painting, scribbling, stamping — whatever — with dreams/thoughts/visions for a world at peace. The goal? For starters, thousands upon thousands of these palettes will be delivered, with your help, to the next President-elect in November 2008. And more may be in store: as Yvonne puts it, "In our wildest imaginations we envision a huge art exhibit of the palettes, a virtual on-line art exhibit, or perhaps the publication of a book."
This is an opportunity to express your commitment to refocusing our nation’s resources on activities that affirm, rather than destroy, life.
We are proud to announce that attendees at the June 2008 Art on Lark celebration created over 40 Palettes for Peace! How can you take part? Just make art in your home, in schools, scout groups, church groups, women’s groups, men’s groups…anywhere you can gather with others and a few simple art materials. To download a PDF with complete directions, including suggestions on where to obtain palettes and instructions on where to send your completed work, click here.
For more information: You can also read Yvonne's essay describing her initial inspiration for the project on our Writing page, or click here for Yvonne's blog.
Photos from Planetary Dance on Governors Island
Rebekah Windmiller, Director of NYC Expressive Arts Studio (nycEAS) and facilitator for the Planetary Dance event held this past June, has shared some pictures from the dance online. As she tells us, "My friend and wonderful artist, Stephen Dickens, so generously took many beautiful photos of our work on Sunday (June 29), and I want to share them with all of you."

Hot off the press
"In Praise of Poiesis: The Arts and Human Existence"
Edited by Paul Antze and Ellen Levine
Toronto-based independent publishing company EGS Press recently announced the publication of this new book in the field of expressive arts. "In Praise of Poiesis" is a collection of writings, poems and visual images honoring the life and work of Stephen K. Levine, poet, teacher and Dean of the Doctoral Studies Program at EGS. In the spirit of Levine’s thinking, it serves up a juicy feast of ideas about the current state of work in the expressive arts — therapy, coaching, consulting and social change — by pioneers and leaders in the field who are based all over the world.
